However, we know this is not always possible and below are some instructions on how to do this at home. All you need is a string, thread or ribbon and a ruler.

First, wrap the string around your finger close to your knuckle. Mark the spot where the string overlaps. Hold the string beside a ruler and measure the marked length in millimetres.
